Growing up in Kakuma Refugee Camp has shaped not only my identity, but also my understanding of the power of culture, resilience, and community. I began my primary education here at a time when I never imagined that life would one day open new doors for me.

From a young age, I carried a clear mission: to change my family’s story and build a different future. I committed myself to hard work, determination, and the belief that my background did not define my destiny.

When I joined secondary school, life became even more challenging — but I refused to lose hope. Instead, I discovered a passion that would guide my journey: becoming a Master of Ceremonies. Through courage and consistency, I earned the name MC Malife “The Risk Taker” – Mr. Bacteria, a title that reflects my boldness and creativity.

Along the way, I expanded my skills by learning filmmaking and computer literacy, which strengthened my ability to tell stories through digital media. I volunteered as a street journalist and worked with platforms such as Kakuma and Host Community Talent Show, Base TV, and Mbula Media, experiences that deepened my love for storytelling and community engagement.

After completing high school, I served as the Chairperson of Kakuma Voice of Champions, a community-based organization focused on youth empowerment. This role sharpened my leadership abilities and taught me the importance of organizing and supporting young people.

I later worked with FilmAid Kenya as a social media influencer, gaining professional media experience, and also served as a teacher with the Lutheran World Federation, contributing to education within my community.

Throughout all these roles, I carried one prayer in my heart: to one day support and uplift young talents in Kakuma Refugee Camp.

That prayer was answered when I was appointed as the Coordinator of Kinship Finest Boyz (KFB) in Kakuma.

Today, I proudly serve in this role — committed to ensuring that young people receive the opportunities, mentorship, and platforms they deserve. I am dedicated to helping them share their stories with the world and to proving that everything is possible when hope meets opportunity.

Kakuma Refugee Camp is not a forgotten place. It is a place that builds strength, resilience, creativity, and the courage to dream beyond limitations.
